The Mets gave their fans plenty to cheer about in 2016 with a second-place finish in the National League East division, though they lost their wildcard game to the San Francisco Giants. While the Mets failed to add any significant names to club’s roster during the 2016-2017 offseason, they were able to re-sign second baseman Neil Walker and left fielder Yoenis Cespedes.
Walker is an eight-year veteran who hit 23 home runs last season, and the Mets signed him to a one-year extension for $17,200,000. Cespedes is a five-year veteran from Cuba who led the team in home runs (31), total bases (254), and on-base percentage (.354).
Cespedes was able to rack up these stats even though he missed 30 games due to an injury. After refusing a three-year, $75 million contract, he eventually accepted a four-year, $110 million deal.
